Material of Construction:

The material used is terracotta. Terracotta is a ceramic material. Its name comes from Latin and means “baked earth” (terra = earth, soil and cotta = baked). Therefore, when we say that something is made of terracotta, we mean that it is made of clay.

Terracotta, in Italian meaning “baked earth,” from the Latin phrase cocta terra, is a type of clay-based ceramic. Terracotta is commonly used for clay sculptures as well as various functional objects, including containers (mainly plant pots), water and sewage pipes, roof tiles, bricks, and decorative surfaces in building construction. The term is also used to describe the natural brownish-orange color of most types of terracotta. In archaeology and art history, the term terracotta is often used to describe objects such as figurines that are not made on a potter’s wheel.
