Material of Construction:
Bamboo, like wood, is a natural composite material with a high strength-to-weight ratio and useful as a building material for various constructions. Bamboo's strength-to-weight ratio is similar to lumber, and its strength is generally similar to a strong softwood or hardwood lumber. However, it is more susceptible to decay than wood, due to its lack of natural toxins and its typically thin walls. Untreated bamboo can last 2-6 years indoors and less than a year if exposed to water. Protecting bamboo from decay requires two design principles, keeping it dry throughout its life and treating it to protect against insects such as beetles and termites.
