Bamboo, like wood, is a natural composite material with a high strength-to-weight ratio, making it suitable for a variety of structural applications. Its strength is comparable to that of both softwood and hardwood, offering durability while remaining lightweight. However, bamboo is more susceptible to decay than wood due to the lack of natural toxins and its typically thin walls. Untreated bamboo can last approximately 2–6 years indoors and less than one year if exposed to water. To ensure longevity, two key principles should be followed: bamboo should be kept dry throughout its lifespan and properly treated to protect it from insects such as beetles and termites.

Dust frequently with a feather duster to clean the recesses of the wood.
